Jerry Garcia Day

Some people leave behind songs. Others leave behind a whole way of looking at the world.

Jerry Garcia was more than the legendary guitarist and co-founder of the Grateful Dead. He became a symbol of creativity, curiosity, individuality, and community. His music was never about playing the same song the exact same way twice. It was about improvising, experimenting, taking the long way around, and seeing where the moment might lead.

Frankly, that sounds a little like The Bazaar on Apricot & Lime.

On Saturday, August 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., we’re celebrating that free-spirited energy with Jerry Garcia Day & Vinyl Swap: A Very Grateful Day at The Bazaar.

Why Jerry Garcia Still Matters

Jerry Garcia represented the idea that you didn’t have to fit neatly into a box.

He was a musician, artist, collaborator, and creative explorer. The Grateful Dead built something far bigger than a traditional band and fanbase. Their concerts became gathering places where people connected, traded stories, followed the music, expressed themselves, and became part of a community. That sense of belonging is a huge part of Jerry Garcia’s legacy.

You didn’t have to dress a certain way. You didn’t have to know the right people. You didn’t even have to experience a song the same way as the person standing next to you. The whole thing made room for individuality. And decades later, that spirit still resonates.

A Very Grateful Day at The Bazaar

We’ll be bringing that energy to The Bazaar with an afternoon filled with live music, vinyl, local makers, shopping, food, and plenty of good vibes.

Live music with Sabrina, Zeena & Palmer will fill the Bazaar starting at noon. Expect the kind of music that makes you stop mid-shopping trip, find a spot to listen, and maybe sway a little even if you swore you weren’t dancing.

We’ll also have guest vendors joining our 40+ permanent Bazaar shops, giving you even more local treasures to discover.

And because Jerry Garcia Day deserves a soundtrack you can take home, we’re adding a Vinyl Swap. 💿

Bring Your Records. Find Something New at Jerry Garcia Day Sarasota

There is something wonderfully human about vinyl.

You hold it. You study the cover art. You read the liner notes. You remember where you found it. Maybe you bought it when it was released. Maybe you inherited it from someone. Maybe you grabbed it for $2 at a yard sale and discovered your new favorite album.

Our Vinyl Swap is a chance to bring records you’re ready to pass along and see what musical treasures someone else brings through the door. Rock. Jazz. Funk. Soul. Country. Punk. Disco. The delightfully weird album you bought because the cover was too good to leave behind.

Bring it. Because one person’s “I haven’t listened to this in years” might be someone else’s “I can’t believe I found this!”

Why This Day Feels So Very Bazaar

At its heart, Jerry Garcia’s legacy is about creativity without permission. It’s about artists doing things differently. People gathering because they share a feeling, not because they all look or think alike. It’s about discovery, connection, and letting something unexpected happen.

That’s exactly what we love about The Bazaar so having Jerry Garcia Day Sarasota makes perfect sense.

You might come for the music and leave with a vintage jacket. Come for the vinyl swap and discover a local artist. Stop in to browse and end up staying for lunch at Hamlet’s Eatery. Meet someone who remembers their first Grateful Dead show. Hear a song you haven’t thought about in 20 years.

The best days are rarely the ones where you rush in, check something off a list, and leave.

They’re the ones where you wander a little.
