If you’ve ever found yourself doodling in the margins of a notebook, sketching while on the phone, or letting your creativity spill out in swirls, shapes, and squiggles — this day is for you!
On Saturday, September 27 from 11am to 3pm, The Bazaar on Apricot & Lime is hosting a community Doodle Day in honor of National Doodle Day. And we want YOU to be part of it.
Why Doodle Day at The Bazaar?
The Bazaar is home to more than 40 local artists, makers, and creative spirits. We celebrate imagination in all its funky forms, so it only makes sense for us to embrace a holiday that encourages playful self-expression.
Plus, here’s a thing: according to the City of Sarasota zoning codes, we aren’t allowed to put up signage along our fence. But art? Art is always welcome. So instead of a sign, we’re creating something even better — a giant doodle banner, made by our community, for our community.
Fun Doodle Facts 🎨
Did you know doodling can actually help with focus and memory? Studies have shown that people who doodle while listening retain more information than those who don’t.
The word doodle was first popularized in the 1930s and originally meant to “fritter away time” — but today, we know it’s really about creativity in motion.
Famous doodlers include royalty, scientists, and musicians:
Thomas Jefferson – Doodled architectural sketches and inventions while in meetings.
Queen Victoria – Filled journals with little sketches and scribbles.
Taylor Swift – Known to doodle in journals and even on lyrics sheets.
David Bowie – Sketched costumes, set designs, and abstract doodles in his notebooks.
Albert Einstein – Sketched little diagrams and playful drawings in the margins of his notes.
Leonardo da Vinci – The ultimate doodler, filling notebooks with sketches, inventions, and scribbles.
John F. Kennedy – Known for doodling during meetings, especially sailboats, cubes, and circles.
What to Expect
✨ All supplies provided — We’ll have plenty of markers waiting for you.
✨ Free + fun for all ages — Whether you’re 5 or 95, we want to see your doodles!
✨ Your art on display — Once the banner is complete, we’ll hang it proudly on our fence for everyone to enjoy. Remember to sign your work!
While you’re here, you can shop from dozens of local artists, find one-of-a-kind treasures, and fabulous fashion. There will also be live music and great food from Hamlet's Eatery. Think of it as a day of creativity, community, and connect
ion — all wrapped up in doodles.
